Why this blog?

In March of 2013, I attended a family history conference in which Allan F. Packer, Executive Director of The Family History Department of the Church talked about the need for children to be involved in family history activities.  He referred to a book by Bruce FeilerThe Secrets of Happy Families. In this book, Feiler reports that it is highly beneficial for children to know about their family history. Feiler in turn summarizes a study conducted by Robyn Fivush and Marshall Duke, professors of psychology at the Emory University Center for Myth and Ritual in American Life, “The more children knew about their family’s history, the stronger their sense of control over their lives, the higher their self-esteem, and the more successfully they believed their families functioned.”

I hope this blog will provide sufficient family history to give my relatives, especially the younger ones, a sense of belonging and confidence in the sanctity of family.

  1. Nice start Cathy. I'm impressed you've decided to take this on but I'm glad you did. It's always nice to know something about where we came from and how we got here. I'll be looking forward to future blogs and pictures that you've managed to dig up somewhere.
